One of my favorite horror films of all time has got to be A Nightmare On Elm Street. Between the fact that’s it’s just so damn gutsy and gory, and the fact that it really is jump-out-your-seat scary, it’s right up there with some of the best thriller chillers ever to have hit the large screen.

I also love (love love love!) the invention and ultimate fright-fest that comes from the central character … Freddy Kreuger. He’s terrible, he’s cold, he’s a murderer most wicked and he’s quite possibly one of the most terrifying screen characters ever to have graced the movie scene.

Kreuger, though massively demonised in the films, was supposedly based on a school-yard bully that director Wes Craven fell foul of during his school years. He apparently coupled the aggressor of his youth with a frightening encounter he experienced with a homeless man late one night.

So many years later, the two came together and Freddy Kreuger was birthed – albeit onto celluloid as opposed to manifested into reality (thankfully!). The film first hit our screens way back in 1984, and to date has spawned a whole series of spins offs, including sequels, TV shows, merchandise and even a unique ‘twinning’ with another cracking horror movie ‘Friday The 13th‘.

Back in the day, Nightmare certainly put the cat among the pigeons. Despite the fact that the likes of Jaws had already put in an appearance, as gore fest went, Nightmare really was close to the bone (pardon the pun). The film was pitched to several studio houses, some of whom were interested providing the director/creator Wes Craven toned down the gore.

Craven refused, preferring to keep his screenplay intact. It was eventually approved and given the go ahead by what was, back then, a very new production company, New Line Cinema. Filming commenced and eventually the classic that we’ve grown to love (or hate?!) was born.

These days the name Freddy Kreuger has become synonymous with the stuff of nightmares, and just a look at his gloved, bladed hand is enough to give even today’s teenage culture the creeps. Over the last 28 years, the Nightmare franchise has become as common a product as the likes of coffee, bowflex coupons or gasoline.

The ordinal budget was in the region of $1.8 million, and in the first week alone the film grossed in excess of $25 million – so you can imagine just how much money the franchise has amassed in almost 30 years of being a merchantable commodity. Let’s just say the Nightmare films are probably singularly responsible for delivering New Line Cinema’s initial financial vantage point in the movie world.

To date I have never loved a character as much as I have Freddy Kreuger, nor been as much of a fan on one single horror franchise. Does he give me nightmares? Yes! Would I love to meet him? Absolutely not! However I have met the actor who played him, Robert Englund, a couple of times and in the flesh well … he’s nothing like Mr Kreuger!

As much as I love horror films and anything that’s ghoulishly related, sometimes life imitates art. A couple of months ago I’d been down to our local movie theater and watched the latest fright flick. Loved the film, jumped out of my seat a few times then, on leaving the theater, I fell down a couple of steps and ended up breaking my ankle.

Besides it being a rather painful experience, it was also an expensive one. Happily my insurance covered the main expenses, it was the time off work that wasn’t covered! Still I managed to utilize my time well, by supervising the overhaul of my home, paid for via a loan from local rehab hard money lenders. Still – the broken ankle prevented me from getting real involved!

The movie theater were awesome, they felt responsible in some way (they weren’t – I was all animated about the movie and just didn’t watch my step) and gave me free entry for the next twelve months. As an avid theater goer, I go any chance I get and being given a years free pass means I will probably be watching all kinds of films for the next year or so.

As it is, I know some cool and interesting horror movie facts, some gleaned from conventions I’ve been on (yes- I am THAT kind of horror movie fan) and some have come from hanging round the horror genre since I was in my mid-teens. Over the years I’ve amassed a large collection of horror movie trivia, not least facts such as:

the world famous horror movie Halloween was made in its entirety on a budget of $320,000 – yet it’s grossed in excess of $47 million. That’s some profit!

Stephen King’s son, Joe, plays Billy the boy that appears in the introduction and conclusion of each Creepshow production

Le Manoir du Diable is the first known horror movie, and it was filmed way back in 1896, by a man called Georges Melies

the 1958 horror sensation The Blob, the main ‘character’ was actually referred to as the ‘mass’ in the films script

1996 gore fest Scream was originally given the film heading Scary Movie

the infamous mask used in the Scream movies? It was supposedly based upon Edvard Munch’s painting ‘Scream’

Wes Craven’s wife Mimi had a small role in his file A Nightmare On Elm Street – she was the nurse that examined Nancy’s dreams

one of the films that’s scared me the most (over the years) was Evil Dead. It was directed by Sam Raimi, who made the decision to leave college in order to film the movie. Good choice Sam!

The above is but a tiny collection of horror movie trivia – there are hundreds and thousands of interesting pieces of information out there on the internet. The next time you hire out a horror DVD, check online and see what cool snippets of info there may be. It makes the watching of them a lot more fun and, in some instances, a lot more thrilling!

For children, Halloween is a time to collect candy and pig out on sweet treats. But adults have outgrown that phase so they’re looking for another way to have fun. What better way than to throw a scary party with all of your friends? This is the perfect idea for people who love horror movies, ghouls, ghosts, and goblins. It can also combine a few activities into one so that you get the most fun out of this unique opportunity. After all, Halloween only comes around once a year and it’s not like you can throw a scary party any time you like. So take full advantage of this chance to freak out your friends while having a good laugh.

One of the best ways to make this party come to life is by using a karaoke machine. Music is a vital part of any party, but this is enjoying it in a whole new way. It allows your guests to be participants -which is already scary in itself. You can have different musical challenges that will get the adrenaline flowing. It’s also a great way to experience songs while being able to sing with your own voice. And you don’t have to spend all that much money either if your budget is a concern. There are lots of accessories and machines that work well with pre-existing home audio equipment.

An interesting idea would be to have your friends come over dressed as their favorite scary monsters. You can even have a contest to see who has the best one. Then you can break out the karaoke machine and have each of your guests saying according to the character that they are portraying. There are also videogame versions of your favorite karaoke games that utilize a PlayStation or Xbox. You can easily use one of these games instead of buying a full karaoke machine. With the right declarations and a perfect theme, you can turn your hollowing party into a singing event with a truly creepy atmosphere!

When you’re thinking about your guest list, it’s important to consider the personality of each person you want to invite. This might not be the type of event where you can invite everyone you know. The reason why you need to be selective these days is karaoke is not for everyone, nor is dressing up in a full costume. It’s important to have a great mix of people so that everyone gets along and helps each other during the karaoke fun. This type of thing is only going to work with a supportive atmosphere filled with fun loving people. Those who are going to criticize karaoke or make fun of things aren’t going to add to the overall ambience of the event.

So if this idea sounds good to you and you’re ready to turn your next hollowing party into a singing bash, start planning now because it’s a lot of work. You can decide on your budget and check out this following site to find the best reviews for a good machine: http://karaokemachineguide.com/

My wife does not like scary stuff. If she sees something scary on television she will turn it off…even if it has not yet gotten to the scary spot yet. In fact, if she happens to see something scary or even given the slight hint of something scary she will not sleep well. I on the otherhand am quite different.

I love scary stuff. I’m not sure exactly why, perhaps I’m “wired” differently, but I just do. My favorite television show is currently “The Walking Dead”. Here it is, Sunday afternoon, and I can’t wait til this evening as I know a new episode will soon appear on my TiVo. I love the “on the edge” type of horror stuff and this show definitely delivers in this regard.

The last time I remember being scared at horror stuff when I was a little kid. Something real scary these days is not having a place to put my sunglasses. There was a television show that came on television called “Night Gallery”. Perhaps some of you older folk out there will remember it? Basically it revolved around a painting…and the scary story behind it. I remember this one episode in which a ordinary baby doll would come alive at night and kill people. My room was in the basement of our house back then and I remember having a hard time sleeping after watching that particular episode. The white shirts in my closet seemed to come to live and every knock and ping from the furnace took on a life form of their own.

I’ve grown up since then and it seems I am able to differentiate between horror television and real life. If I am tired I can actually nod off to sleep while “The Walking Dead” is still on television. Guess this further emphasizes the point of how it does not bother my sleep patterns.

I would like to encourage all of you out there who have not watched a scary show on television to give it a go. You might have found you were scared at stuff when you were a kid but have outgrown it. You may find that in your later years you will overlook the “scary parts” and appreciate the other visual and audio segments that you have not really been appreciating up til now.

Animals are often used in films especially horror films. The familiar scene of cat squeaking in the darkness has given Goosebumps to viewers umpteenth times. Many Animal films have been super hit at the box offices. Special training is given to animals so that they do as per required. Many a time animals suffer injuries and other health problems due to sustained training. Pet animals especially birds, cats and dogs are more prone to injuries than other animals. Domestic animals too may suffer from injuries. Horses are often used in periodic movies. They have to go through tough physical conditions when warlike scenes are being filmed. Bruises, scratches, wounds and other skin afflictions are common. Another problem that animals face is that they frequently have to be kept in animal pen or cages on the set that takes toil physically and mentally. Many times animals get irritated and display violent behavior resulting in injuries. If you are looking to get quick treatment and medicines for your animal, you can seek it from online pharmacy Petmeds.

If you’re searching for Halloween party ideas, I have a few for you. I love Halloween, and we’ve hosted numerous Halloween parties. Some were for kids, some were for families, and some were for adults only. No matter which type of spooky party we had, we always included decorations, activities, entertainment, and great southern food. For the adult parties, there were mixed drinks, wine, and beer, too.

How scary do you want your party to be? It should definitely be age appropriate. Real horror and gore are fine when only adults will be in attendance, but you want to tone it down some for kids – especially for younger kids. With kids, “spooky” is better than real horror. For adults, however, the scarier the better!

Entertainment for your Halloween party might include magic acts, dance contests, pumpkin carving contests, live music, and/or hay rides. And don’t think a hay ride can’t be scary. At a couple of our Halloween parties, we included a “hay ride of horror.” The guests on the hay ride figured they were just taking a nice, relaxing ride, but we had a big surprise for them. We used a large livestock trailer for the ride. The trialer had tall slotted sides and was filled with hay. Near the end of the course of the ride, we planted a pal who was dressed in a Halloween costume. For the adult hay ride, the guy was dressed up as Jason from the Halloween movie, and he was weilding a “bloody” knife. He jumped up on the side of the trailer, climbed in, and proceeded to “attack” one of the guests. The attackee was in on the plot, and he was equipped with some fake blood. As Jason attacked and stabbed the guest, he “bled” everywhere, on cue. Of course, the two tricksters had practiced the scenario several times, so it looked very realistic.

Horror costumes are usually worn to celebrate Halloween. The industry has grown over the last 20 or so years and some have taken it to a new level. For those who prefer to make their own, start by taking an old costume or piece of clothing, and follow these steps to make it look old. Age your costume with paint that is one shade lighter than the fabric. Use an old paint brush and dip it in the paint and then paint it on a newspaper to remove any excess liquid. Now paint large streaks on the fabric.

You will achieve a better effect if your brush is almost but not quite dry.
To recreate a mold effect, make the whole costume, slightly damp and turn it inside out. Now dilute some white paint and paint it on the costume with an old paint brush. It has to be wet enough to penetrate through the fabric . Hang it up to dry. Wet a few patches on the costume with water and then dab on a dirty yellow color with a sponge to replicate mold.

Let it dry and then repeat the process. When you finally turn the costume the right way round, you should see a mottled blotch look.

If you like creating your own then you will find the above suggestions satisfying and good fun. You can, of course, experiment yourself with other colours and paints. If however you prefer to buy readymade costumes and save yourself the time, then a visit to www.officialpartydirectory.co.uk will show you the latest incarnations of costumes such as those worn by Johnny Depp in the pirate movies.

If there is one make or break type of business, it’s one that involves Halloween costumes. The main reason is because nearly 100% of the money earned from these businesses is generated in October. In other words, if you’re in this business, you can’t afford to have a bad month. However, it can be a lucrative business. There are plenty of home based business opportunities out there and once you learn how to start an internet business, you could consider dipping your feet into the Halloween business.

Many people will buy their costumes at actual stores. Many of these stores pop up for a month or two then leave. You’ll notice that most of them don’t allow returns. The money made from these stores are huge. As an individual, you wouldn’t be able to open up one of these stores unless you had tons of money so the next best option is to create a website that sells costumes. Of course, plenty of sites do this so your best bet would be to focus on a specific niche such as zombies or some viral video character. You could even do some research to see what is talked about a lot and see if people are looking for costumes related to that person such as Angry Birds, Glee characters, and even Justin Bieber.
